There was no one at the drop off location during business hours, and the phone number was not correct. After our initial negative experience, we were hoping this location would be more helpful, but there was no one to help us, and we received a phone call several days after to see if we had in fact dropped off the vehicle! Not only had we dropped it off before we were required to, we left it with a quarter tank more than we received it with. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this to anyone. The onsite personnel is very hard to get a hold of. There is never anyone one site to talk to. If you call you get the voicemail. It took me two days get a hold of someone to rent a truck. Once the truck was rented the condition of the vehicle was great.

Over the past decade, I got to ride shotgun with mine: But on our many road trips around this great province, hosting townhall meetings on pipelines, tankers, hydropower, wild salmon and the public interest, it was me who did the driving. Rafe supplied the music — from his ipods full of jazz and old-time classics — and, of course, the stories. So many good stories. He was my kind of guy — an intelligent, entertaining firebrand with a deep sense of justice.
And a voice that seemed to cut through the bullshit spewed by our politicians and CEOs. At his peak, he was the highest rated talk show host in Western Canada, with numbers that are simply unheard of today. And yet, the time came when he no longer fit the mainstream media. It was their loss and the beginning of the end of their cultural relevance.
Even as Socred Environment Minister, Rafe stopped the raising of the Ross Dam on the Skagit river, halted the slaughter of wolves in the north, and placed a moratorium on uranium mining. When the BC Liberals took over from the party of the Bennetts, the right began to harden and lose touch with the public. Rafe would see journalism undergo a similar transformation. I had hooked and lost three Steelhead in the upper teens. Then in a five day period I hooked and lost three over twenty pounds. The smallest of these three took a piece of pink yarn I was drifting through and behind some big boulders only a few feet from the riverbank. It then came up out of the water, threw the hook, and left. We had a really good look at the fish and it appeared to be easily twenty pounds. This fish started by taking a large amount of line going downriver but it then turned back upriver.
When it was straight out from all of us it came completely out of the water — not jumping, but swimming — remaining level to the water and sliding back into the water. When it again turned back downriver we followed it a long way down the riverbank before I brought it into the shallow water. It was right up to the net when it erupted once more throwing the hook and leaving.

Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin said Hydro One’s collection practices have been “cruel”. Marin said the utility has been threatening to cut off people’s electricity, even during the winter months — something that contravenes Hydro One’s own policy.
I wondered how Jim Lester was doing at the care facility near his home in Peoria, Illinois. I hadn’t had a phone call from Jim in many weeks. His beloved golf game no longer an option. I met Jim in in Lethbridge as he was a main organizer of the reunion of Granum and Lethbridge players of the s and s. He became a major contributor and great friend to our little project with photos and information on the Southern Alberta Leagues. Lester was among the dozens and dozens of stars from Fresno State University to grace the fields of Western Canada and was an All-Star third sacker for teams in Granum and Lethbridge.
He’ll be missed by many both in the United States and Canada as he kept up contact with many of his old colleagues going back to the s. He had arrived in our little prairie community in to suit up with our new entry in semi-pro ball on the prairies, the Lloydminster Meridians.

Photos by Josh Hutchins. When I decided to move my winters to Australia, part of me knew that I was sacrificing my love for one of the most special fisheries in the world. It seemed unfathomable to miss a week of the season, let alone all of it. I found comfort knowing that I still had summer steelhead available to me for the other six months of the year, but for so long I had defined myself by the persistence and patience it took to pursue their cold-weather counterparts, that fishing for summer-fish almost seemed like cheating; no suffering in snow-drenched gloves, no sink-tip loop-to-looping, no purple lips waiting to be thawed by a steaming dark roast.
But I knew it was either sacrifice or divorce, so winter steelhead took a backseat to my vows, with the compromise that I would visit them every second Christmas. The first three years of the trade-off ran smoothly. So I did my best to compromise by deciding that as long as a species was introduced over one hundred years ago, I would try to turn a blind eye to how it got there.
Lush greenery lined the riverbanks, and steep cliffs held wild birds, kangaroos, wombats and other fascinating animals. As though composed of words from a fairytale, the freestone streams ran endlessly over red rock and green foliage, their pools such a deep sapphire-blue it seemed almost sacrilege that no wild trout or steelhead had ever naturally found their way there. As perfect as the browns and rainbows were, I still longed for the connection with a species that was indigenous to the waters I had such profound respect for.

Fishing, as many have a misconception, is not a boring sport. It is very adventurous and many a time involves walking for miles before reaching a good spot, boating to reach a good spot, or wade through water for fishing. A majority of the people who love fishing confess that it is very relaxing and let them get their minds off their stressors. Also, it sets the mind working and keeps it occupied planning strategies in the many different ways to catch a fish.
Whether to use live bait or artificial bait and so on. Fishing is an art, and it requires a lot of skills before you master it, and over the years you will be able to master the art.
